13 line up for September 13 poll

A field of 13 candidates will contest the September 13 local government election for Gloucester Shire Council.

Nominations closed last Wednesday at 12 noon and the ballot draw followed at 2pm.

Following the draw the order of candidates for the ballot papers is Julie Lyford, Peter McKellar, John Paskins, Katheryn Smith, James (Jim) Henderson, Ken Johnson, Noreen (Jerry) Germon, Richard Webb, Ian Shaw, John Rosenbaum, Geoffrey Slack, John Dugas, Tony Tersteeg.

There are nine positions available on council.

Each candidate has been invited to submit a piece to the Advocate outlining what they see as the important issues facing our shire and this will appear in the paper on Wednesday September 10.

Applications for postal votes are now available and postal votes will be issued from August 18. Pre-polling opens on Monday, September 1.

Pre-polling will be available from council’s administration building in King Street for Gloucester Shire’s voters, while pre-polling for Great Lakes will occur at council’s administration building in Breese Parade, Forster.

On Polling Day, September 13, votes can be cast between 8am and 6pm and there is no absentee voting for local government elections.

Voting is compulsory and failing to vote attracts a $55 fine.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
