At Stroud Road Public School when the prinicipal says jump, all the students jump . . . over their skipping ropes, that is.
And that’s what happened last Friday as the students, teachers and parents at the small school skipped as one in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people skipping at one time.
Nearly all of the tiny school’s students, together with a dozen parents and teachers, joined 59,000 others around Australia to skip for three minutes to celebrate the 25th birthday of the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart.
The new world record attempt that will be verified by Guinness World Records in the coming weeks.
The official record of 7,632 people skipping at the same time has been held in the United Kingdom.
The 24 participating Stroud Road primary students raised nearly $1000 in sponsorship for the Heart Foundation.
Stroud Road School was the only local school to participate in the record breaking attempt.
Established in Australia in 1983, Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart is renowned for being one of Australia’s most popular physical activity and fundraising programs in schools.
Since the inception of Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart 25 years ago, more than 90 per cent of all Australian schools, involving 8 million school children have participated in this fun and active program, generating enough rope to stretch from Sydney to Perth.
