Blackmores Mountain Man tri challenge

20/08/2008 5:00:00 AM
The annual event of the Blackmores’ Mountain Man Tri Challenge in Gloucester is fast approaching, this year being held on Sunday September 14. It is an event which draws competitors from Queensland, Victoria and the ACT, many from the Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle, Taree and Forster areas as well as a great local representation. Feedback from these competitors is always positive and enthusiastic about the unique and challenging event and the hospitable community and the beautiful scenery.

On Saturday the 13th competitors arrive to register for the challenge with a briefing at 5.30pm followed by a carbo dinner. The Tri challenge event begins with the first competitors starting out at 8am on the Sunday morning on a 22 kilometre bike ride along Bucketts Road then cross country over the Bucketts Mountains. Then into the kayak where they paddle 11 kilometres down the beautiful Barrington River to finish with a 10 kilometre run back into the Gloucester District Park across the foothills of the Bucketts.

After the event on the Sunday a presentation ceremony is held with participants, family and friends all enjoying a relaxed afternoon in the park.

The Blackmores Tri Challenge has always been well supported by the community of Gloucester either in the form of service clubs, SES and RFS, landholders, first aide volunteers, businesses, and individual members of the community who come forward to help in some way to help make the weekend a success. Any one interested in putting their name down to help should contact Jim Dunn on 65589000. The time required is not huge and it is great fun being able to watch the competitors take to the challenge.

The Blackmores Tri Challenge raffle this year has a first prize of a weekend for two at Pepper’s Salt andSpa Resort at Kingscliff, second prize a night for two at Hooke’s Creek Resort and third prize a $150 hamper donated by Gloucester Health Foods. All profits from the proceeds with go to Hillcrest Nursing Home. If you would like to buy a ticket in the raffle they will be available at Gloucester Health Foods, through committee members or will be sold on the event weekend.

Competitor entry forms available on www.gloucestertri.com.au or at Gloucester Health Foods.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
