Cockies on the up

14/05/2008 4:00:00 AM
Last Tuesday Night saw the Cockies get there feathers ruffled by the Forster Dolphins under lights at Gloucester. There was a good crowd at No 1 oval for the mid-week contest.

The Cockies were hoping to play a tight game to try and control the big backline Forster had. This didn’t happen and there were quite a few tries scored against us. Gloucester forwards were at times controlling the ball well but they were few and far between. Forster showed ball security and led raid after raid at the Cockies. Gloucester didn’t give up and kept on trying to slow Forster down. Joffy was playing well trying to hit the ball up, the old war horses Gary Collins and Donny were giving Shrek a hand to dominate the scrums which they did well. Sealy put in all night constantly annoying any player taking the ball up.

The game was played hard but Forster took the points. A big thanks to Charlie, Courtney and Julie in the canteen and to Ronny and Nathan for their help on the field.

On Saturday the Cockies travelled to Nabiac to play Bulahdelah after Spike took us on a scenic route via Nabiac showground we found the field. The Cockies were ready to make up for the loss on Tuesday night.

The first half saw the Cockies on fire and having great ball control and security. After a number of hit ups through both the forwards and backs Bulahdelah couldn’t hold on and Sealy scrambled over in the corner for a try.

The Cockies started building the pressure again with Jason Wenham chiming into the backline well from fullback. Josh Muddle was doing the hard yards in the centres breaking the first defender on most occasions. The backs were loving the forwards going forward and this led to the next try, which came from good forward work by the pigs. The backs worked the ball and the try was scored under the posts by Josh. The kick was successful the score was 12-0.

That was the final score Bulahdelah came out in the second half and put a bit more pressure onto the Cockies but wasn’t enough to score any points.

Gloucester has another catch up game on tonight against Old Bar then travel to Taree on Saturday to play the Manning River Ratz. Bus leaves Roundabout Inn 12.30.

Thanks to the supporters who came on Saturday. Thanks also to Greg Ryan from Webb Brothers for helping the coach yell the orders to the players from the sideline.

See you at the Rugby.
