Mixed fours final decided

3/12/2008 4:00:00 AM
With the green playing heavy after the rain it took bowlers a little time to adjust to the conditions last Sunday. Tom Donoghue’s team of Heather Williams, Jill Everett and Kevin Everett found their range sooner and this resulted in them winning over Mary Wade, Olga Sharpe, Barry Wade and Eric Latimore, so the Mixed Fours Champions for 2008 are Heather Williams, Jill Everett, Kevin Everett and Tom Donohue, congratulations to the winners and better luck next year to the runners up.

Thursday saw 34 bowlers playing in our usual social game. A mixture of pairs and triples was played and Kevin Everett continued on his winning way as he and partner Brian Crook collected the major vouchers. Harry Cox (having his first run as skip for a while) successfully led Kevin Waite and Ken McLeish, a visitor from the Central Coast, to collect the runners up trophy.

Saturday saw a very poor showing of only 14 players to try for the jackpot, which wasn’t won, and will be worth $55 next time we play. Even though the jackpot wasn’t won Don Ridgeway and John West did play well enough to collect the meat vouchers. Don’t forget next Saturday (6th) is Presentation Day and the annual over 65s vs under 65s match will be on again. The youngsters are a bit slow in getting their names down and the organisers would like two or three more under 65s to play and balance the numbers.

Sunday, as well as the championship game, mentioned above, we were pleased to play host to the Gloucester Rugby Union “Cockies” and their supporters on their social outing. We combined the “Cockies” and our usual Sunday morning suspects and everyone appeared to have a good time on the green and in the clubhouse. If your business or social group is having a get together think of the Bowling Club as a pleasant and friendly venue with all the necessary facilities.

As I will be taking a break for the next six weeks or so I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a Happy and Holy Christmas and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year. If you are travelling over the holiday period please take care as we want you with us in 2009. With all the compliments of the season from The Greensmaster.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
