Roy takes Vets golf title

14/05/2008 4:00:00 AM
The 2008 Veterans Championships have been decided with Roy Crichton winning the championship with a second round 79. This gave Roy a total of 164 for the two rounds. Runner up was Denver Webb nine shots behind which also produced the best net score.

Conditions were a little easier this week with the course a little drier. 24 Vets turned out to play in the second round in conjunction with an individual stroke event. The course is in great playing condition.

The second round began with only one shot separating the first three players. However, Roy got away to a good round played close to handicap and took out the trophy. Congratulations Roy, well deserved win.

In B grade Derek Bardwell prevailed and managed to get in four shots ahead of Bill Murray. Congratulations Derek. Derek had a second round 93 to make a total of 187 for the two weeks.

In C grade Keith Whitby emerged from the field to make it a good win. Keith had a 101 to total 206 for the two rounds four shots ahead of Chris Pritchard on 210 and Allan Isaac on 215. Well done Keith. The Net event winner was Denver Webb with net 151 for the two weeks.

Congratulations to all the winners for 2008 and commiserations to the rest who will have to wait to next year for another tilt.

In the week individual event for the day, Roy also won there with a 73 net. Well done Roy. Ball winners included Derek Bardwell 75, Bill Murray 76, Dave Robinson 76, Chris Pritchard and Keith Whitby 77 net. Peter McIntyre won the NTP.

Thanks go to Jim Dunn, Alan Cairns and Keith Caldwell who organised a Sausage Sizzle BBQ lunch to complete a great days golf.

Next week Tuesday 20th will see the Keith Caldwell and Bill Hunter Trophy day with the second round of the Radford Webb Knockout. The following week we head into the Gloucester Vets Week of Golf.
