Division 1
Holstein v Richardson. A surprise win to Jean, Barbara and Gai, taking the match four sets/32 to two sets/26 with Gai running down all look-like winners from the opposition.
Good rallies throughout all sets. Julie Munn and Fay Harris outplayed Barbara and Gai in both sets although the final set went to a tiebreak.
Jean and Gai won the fifth set tiebreak. Jane suffered from the double fault bug but did manage to ace Barbara.
Higgins v Germon. Bev and Sue shared the sets and the long rally wins after Sue and Cheryl took the long first set tiebreak coming from behind. Sue and Lorraine took the fifth set to give their team another set win 6/3 over Bev and Monica but the Germon trio took the majority of the sets to win four sets to two, 32/24.
Kim has finally served a double fault and appeared quite cheeky at the net. Good tennis.
Laurie v Pearson. Lyn and Sharrone won a second long set tiebreak over Betty and Jeanette only to have the latter pairing win the repeat set which also went to a tiebreak.
This gave Pearsons a good game lead, Lauries led by three at set three, with scores then equal at 19all after set four.
The final set provided a determined effort from Judy and Jeanette (Pearson) over Julie and Sharrone to give their team a four game win. Lots of aces resulted from accurate serving. Sharrone’s consistency is a team asset.
Division 2
Bardwell v Waters. Irene and Leanne served many aces for team Waters with Leanne winning her four sets.
Di and Pam opened with a tiebreak loss to Irene and Leanne in a tight fun set. Sally Martin played for Sue Hedditch and with Irene were unsuccessful in both sets against Di and Heather Beesley who won 6/4 and 6/2. Waters four sets/30 to two sets/23.
Tull v Parish. Good rallies between Colleen and Robyn Parish.
Unfortunately too many double faults but lots of aces to compensate. Ruth Wand played as No 1 for Kelli Parish. Colleen Tull continues to play consistently well, winning her four sets, serving well and using that trademark backhand successfully. Tulls only allowed Parish one set, won by Robyn and Di Mansfield convincingly with a 6/1 score. Ruth, Colleen and Nicola too strong for Robyn, Shona and Di but Robyn won the meat tray. Tull five sets/31.
Simmons v Green. Aces outnumbered double faults, good rallies with all six players involved, Leighanne leading her team well playing strongly from the baseline and net area.
Bell, Mae and Kalen trying hard but outplayed by Leighanne, Mercia and Elona only allowing Greens 14 games.
This has been the standard of play produced each week by the Simmons trio who are yet to drop a set.
Tomorrow, team two in each division will be responsible for the canteen goodies. Thank you to teams Higgins and Green for lunch last week.
A reminder that Hoi will be played from 10am should rain cancel tennis, with lunch provided. Everyone invited.
Best wishes to Gai Falla and Valda Tilse whose birthdays received celebration yesterday although Valda would have been limited by not-so-good health at present. We wish you a speedy recovery Valda.
Tennis, don’t you just love it!!
